While creating a wedding registry should be fun, it often turns into a source of stress for many engaged couples. Not only do couples disagree about what should be included on a registry, many worry about what their guests and family will think (or actually buy). And then there’s the problem with many couples forgetting items that they really wanted, wishing that they could go back and change how they did their registry long after their big day.

As you work on building your registries, here are three important tips you should keep in mind in order to create the best wedding registry ever.

1.     Start Registering Now. You may think that you have plenty of time to register, but as soon as word gets out that you are engaged, friends and family will start looking, wanting to get a head start on shopping – and to ensure they get you something that they think you will love. If you wait too long before registering, some family members and friends may pick something out that you didn’t really want. Also, by starting on your registries early, you have more time to think of things you want that may not come to you right away. Nothing is worse than realizing you really wanted to put something on your registry one week before your big day!

2.     Include Everything And At Every Price. Don’t overthink your registry too much – or be too worried about what others may think. Some couples avoid items that feel too expensive and others do the same with gifts that feel too inexpensive. At the end of the day, if you want or need something – include it! You never know what your guests are looking for and one of those items might just be a perfect fit.

3.     Double Check Return Policies. Most major stores have very clear return policies, which makes it simple to take back items you didn’t really want or got two of. Some smaller stores or boutique stores, however, have different policies. Be sure to know what the different policies are before you register so you don’t have any surprises after your wedding. It’s also a good idea to think about requesting monogrammed gifts – these are very rarely able to be returned, so be sure it’s something you definitely want!
